Unpredictable and creepy as hell. The setting was perfect and the build-up was even better. A genuinely haunting picture with outstanding leads.

This film makes for disturbing viewing but is very engaging. Watch out for the most famous scene in the film i.e. the banjo/ guitar duet. Simply brilliant!

Esta aparente pelicula de suspenso acerca de cuatro amigos que buscan pasar un fin de semana en convivencia con la naturaleza, en realidad es un minucioso estudio acerca de la personalidad masculina y de como la naturaleza responde a los abusos de la civilizacion. La direccion de John Boorman es firme y dura como una roca, la fotografia es extraordinaria y las actuaciones fuera de lo comun. "Deliverance" es una experiencia que transforma el alma, como solo lo puede hacer el mejor cine. P.d. James Dickey, el autor de la novela en la que se basa esta cinta, interpreta al sheriff del pueblo.

"Squeal like a pig!" One of the best films of the '70s without a doubt. John Boorman's masterpiece. his direction throughout is superb. Real shame that cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond wasn't nominated for his work. It's just as great as his work for Close Encounters Of the Third Kind and The Deer Hunter. It's also too bad that Jon Voight didn't get a nomination. He is great along with Burt Reynolds, who has never been better, and Ned Beatty, in his screen debut. There is also some excellent editing throughout. A tremendous work of cinema that is shocking, horrifying, thrilling, suspenseful, and straight up great. They don't make adventure films like these anymore, and it's too bad. The "squeal like a pig" scene is the reason many consider it a horror film, although it isn't. But that scene is still intense. Can't recommend this movie enough. 10/10 "Where you goin' city boy?!"
