Tears of the Sun (2003)

Navy SEAL Lieutenant A.K. Waters and his elite squadron of tactical specialists are forced to choose between their duty and their humanity, between following orders by ignoring the conflict that surrounds them, or finding the courage to follow their conscience and protect a group of innocent refugees. Um dos melhores filmes de ação, muito emocionante. Prende a atenção do início ao fim.

Basada en hechos reales, este gran filme de guerra presenta una incursión de un equipo SEAL, liderado por el personaje interpretado por Bruce Willis, a una volátil nación africana para rescatar a una doctora encarnada por la hermosa Monica Bellucci. Además del apoyo en un rol secundario del veterano Tom Skerritt. Este es una de las mejores películas de guerra contemporánea que podrán ver, donde se muestra con gran efectividad y realismo como es que se realiza la guerra moderna, como se movilizan, como utilizan la tecnología y sus tácticas. Un filme que muestra sin tapujos la dura realidad que se vive en ciertos paísas africanos con conflictos bélicos y donde no es clara la legalidad de sus gobiernos. Un filme con buen ritmo y alto contenido de acción pero manejada de una forma bastante realista sin las exageraciones que a veces algunos otros filmes de acción incurren. "Lo único que necesita el mal para triunfar es que los hombres buenos no hagan nada." Altamente recomendada.

I loved this movie. Very powerful, very heartfelt. I love movies about Africa, so it's kind of a no brainer that I would love this one...but seriously, it really is very well done.

A deeply moving, disturbing and ultimately uplifting movie. The music is gorgeous, the scenery lush (filmed in Hawaii, I believe, NOT Nigeria) and several scenes haunting. I'd exercise caution in letting your younger friends see it (like 12 or under) due to strong language and some pretty awful things shown, briefly and not too graphically, but still there. Ends with one of my favorite quotes (I may not have it word-for-word) "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." This movie shows good (but flawed) men doing something about the evil they see. Their sacrifice was worth it.
