Raising Cain (1992)

Child psychologist Carter Nix is a loving and caring family man, but under this appearance lies a dark and troubled past. Grappling with the consequences of this past on his own psyche and the influence of his returning father and violent brother Cain, Carter becomes involved in a series of murders and kidnappings. Meanwhile, his wife Jenny rekindles an old love affair, placing herself in the crosshairs of her increasingly unstable husband.

This film is truly fan tas tic. An absolute belter of a movie that had me in fits of laughter from start to finish. It is about a man who likes to steal babies. His father stole babies before him and made him into a nutjob. His wife is a dizzy bint who likes buying clocks for men. Brian De Palma director of the seminal movie "Scarface" depicts what it must be like if you are a baby stealing maniac in a compassionate yet lighthearted way. At times the film makes no sense at all but you are so busy laughing that it does not matter. The look on the womans face of pure annoyance at having been drowned is an all time movie classic. A surprise classic!!!

From the brief period of time when Lithgow moved from quirky (Buckaroo Banzai, Garp) to villain. An interesting stop on his way to goofy sitcom stardom. Also, a total Master Thespian project - "I will play multiple parts!"

In the lurid and gonzo Raising Cain, writer-director Brian De Palma doesn’t just rip off Alfred Hitchcock. He rips off himself ripping off Hitchcock: He rides over the top of self-parody into a kind of loony-tunes reflexivity.

Brian De Palma's 1992 thriller borders on incoherence and irrelevance as plot, but as a chance for De Palma to perform stylistic pirouettes around a void, it's full of sleek and pleasurable moments.

Great direction from De Palma as usual, but more restrained as well. This is one of the few movies that I have really liked, but don't want to see again for a few years. The first 10 minutes I found deeply disturbing, and the movie was just a huge mindfuck. Was pleasantly surprised. Lithgow does play kookoo very well.
