It's a slightly flawed, but still very good film. It's not Milos Forman's best work, but let's keep in mind, his other works include One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus. The novel is phenomenal and the film is very ambitious indeed. See it for the incredible music and the amazing cast, including the legendary James Cagney, the versatile Brad Dourif and the wonderful Elizabeth McGovern.

I just couldn't really get into this film...there is a nice array of talent however, the mish mash of storylines strain to connect to one another and eventually they fall by the way side and I just didn't care any more

i saw this movie when i was a kid and watch it briefly tonight on TV, its still a great movie even today. The quality of film is amazing and this movie really made everything look original for its time. Fantastic movie

Often a movie is about one noble person with determination. I like this movie because it abounds with them and makes them all believable. They say the book is better, so I'm a little afraid to spoil the movie for myself by reading the book.

Sporadically engaging, Milos Forman's chronicle of American society and culture in the beginning of the twentieth century is too sprawling and dramatically diffuse, though some of the acting is excellent.
