Only noteworthy for being the film debut of Kim Novak, otherwise it's pretty dull.

Pushover wasn't bad at all but for some reason I just didn't get into it until after the cop started to plot with the gangster's woman to steal the $$$.That's when things started to get interesting

10 years after the fact, Fred MacMurray returns to familiar Double Indemnity territory: guy gets seduced into a committing the very crime he's supposed to investigate. But the similarities are actually rather slight, and this doesn't feel entirely like a rehash. Kim Novak is a more romantic, less femme fatale-ish character than Stanwyck, for one thing. There's a heavy voyeurism vibe going on that's very interesting. Richard Quine's direction is not terribly inventive, but it's solid, and the story is quite well-plotted with a lot of tension as MacMurray and Novak's scheme unravels. For the average joe this is probably a weak film, but for a noir fan it does the trick. The leads are both strong, with good supporting performances by E.G. Marshall, Dorothy Malone and Philip Carey. The photography is a little flat at times, but some scenes really shine, especially towards the end. Lousy music, though.

Pretty average noir about Fred MacMurray falling for a criminal's girlfriend (played by Kim Novak) as she is under surveillance. The story of his partner falling for the woman in the apartment below Kim's works better, and there's even a character who is waiting on his pension as he works the stakeout. Guess if he lives, and if he doesn't, guess who kills him. Everyone is good, but the story just isn't all that fantastic.

Although it's a reworking of MacMurray's far superior Double Indemnity this is still a decent little crime caper. Kim Novak is utterly ravishing in her first big screen role, showing herself already possessing undeniable screen presence and star charisma. Even if she never was the best actress on the block she registers on screen, you eye is drawn to her even when she isn't saying anything. There's also solid support from Phil Carey and Dorothy Malone and efficient direction by Quine. Look very fast for a dark haired Marion Ross in a quick bit walking out of a building with Dorothy Malone.
