An incredible film, with an unsettling knack for unsettling the viewer.

I feel bad for those who tried to imitate this movie (besides Halloween) because I just don't think it's possible to have a simple plot about a psycho be so effective with its amazingly eerie set design and cinematography but also with its character depth for Norman Bates as well as Marion who are played incredibly by Perkins and Leigh. The only fault this movie has is a very slightly less intriguing second half compared to the first half and an exposition scene at the end that goes on way too long. Other than that, this is one of the best horror films ever made.

One of the first noted thrillers in American cinema history, this movie sent chills up the spines of theater goers of the time leaving them outraged as they left the film. Hitchcock's movie centers around a young man who runs a hotel and a woman who falls upon his company in hopes of finding a safe-haven for the time being. While the movie wasn't overtly violent, it pioneered cinema by focusing on the psychological complex of a deranged individual who in this case had his psyche broken with the loss of his mother. The most notorious scene, the shower scene, reminds me of when I was in a haunted house with my sister and lost it when a guy opened a curtain holding a fake knife. It was the only time I didn't tell her to calm down and got defensive instead. But it was that slow, impending danger of the curtain opening like that in the movie. Except in the film you were in the eyes of the killer which upset early audiences.

Pretty great movie that set the standard for horror films. I couldn't think of one thing wrong about the movie. But, I wouldn't watch it again because it is a bit outdated.

What more can I say other than this is a classic among slasher movies from 1960
