Watched this in history. It didn't really work as a musical, I thought, and it didn't quite seem to transition smoothly, but it was interesting nevertheless.

Fantastic - a musical drama where the half the narrative is song. excellent cinematography, great music, simple compelling story, makes you think, and may leave you a little uncomfortable - Rednecks and racists wil hate it.l

Tragic and melodramatic Country-and-Western musical set in the Australian outback. Gotta love them for trying.

The really sad fact about this film is that it is based on a true story. Hard to believe that a man would allow his own child to perish so that he could uphold his racist beliefs. Scenary shots are spectacular and Paul Kelly's tunes with their unique nasal twang contribute to the authenticity of this greatl Australian film. Highly recommended

A heavily laboured film that despite its tele-movie feel, tries too hard to be an important Australian text, the racism is forced, as too the acting - Paul Kelly in particular, despite his okayish songs shouldn't really be in front of a camera, all in all disappointing
