Italian for Beginners (2000)

Several lonely hearts in a semi-provincial suburb of a town in Denmark use a beginner's course in Italian as the platform to meet the romance of their lives. The film, which unspools the connections and family drama shared between the students, complies with several aesthetic principles of Dogme 95 movement.

Quirky, poignant, unassuming, charming. It was my introduction to Dogme and I loved it. Fantastico!

Its humour is droll yet humane, especially compared to the snide sarcasm that passes for dialogue in most sitcoms.

Totally amazing - love does happen to everyone!

I must say, I am a little biased toward the Dogme films - they all seem to characterise a human element that lacks in most other films. Unafraid to show the gamet of humanity, Scherfig takes our fears and strongest emotions, distills them into characters and lets us watch the show. Powerful, raw and beautiful, truly a film to crack one's surface.

Preciosa. Tiene partes de comedia, de drama,.... de todo. Y sobre todo, ese aire "casero"...
