Of Gods and Men (2010)

A group of Trappist monks reside in the monastery of Tibhirine in Algeria, where they live in harmony with the largely Muslim population. When a bloody conflict between Algeria's army and Muslim Jihadi insurgents disrupts the peace, they are forced to consider fleeing the monastery and deserting the villagers they have ministered to. In the face of deadly violence, the monks wrestle with their faith and their convictions.

Un film qui rà(C)concilie avec les valeurs judeochretiennes, la puissance de la prière et ces valeureux religieux qui Ã...?uvrent dans l'ombre. C'est aussi un excellent parallèle entre la puissance de l'amour et celle de la violence .

Certainly, this movie is aesthetically beautiful, as the cinematography is strikingly beautiful. My only concern is that it could appear slow at times, and in this ADHD world we live in, where people lose interest if there is not an explosion every 5 second, many viewers will tend to dismiss this film.

Stunningly deep. Contemplative. Serious in the good way. Relevant and meaningful. Like life it requires some patience, but I personally LOVED it. The monk named Luc will be with me for a long time. For a change I'm almost speechless. This movie uses a real story of authentically spiritual people dealing with immediate and relevant (given what's going on in our world) life and death issues, and does so with a exquisite delicacy. Thus this film is a delicacy, IMHO. Highly recommended.

Great French Flick (yes its subtitled) - although beware this movie is a tad tedious at times. Hence this flick may not be your cup of tea. The big question in this true story - would you make the ultimate sacrifice for your religious beliefs?

This is a moving film that seems to be set in a different time to ours. It is a reminder that peace and love continue to be ideals that people strive for and that these are timeless and not dependent on technology, science or epoch.
