You have to take it at its own meditative pace, to wait it out. But then what you get is a love story to cherish permanently.

It's never easy to bring such a masterpiece as the Murakami's book on screen. But by the help of perfectly chosen music and very good camera work, the result is very satisfying :-) I recommend!

This lush, eventually torpid adaptation of Haruki Murakami's more nuanced 1987 cult-favorite novel considers youthful love, loss, and eros...

A good adaptation of one of Haruki Murakami's more straight forward novels. The version I saw had some very poorly written subtitles that often failed to communicate even basic meaning in English, yet the film manages to retain most of the novel's dense feeling through sensitive, subtle performances (Naoku and Midori in particular are spot-on) and poetic imagery that is both gorgeous and doesn't insist upon itself. The realization of the novel's finale (the sequences with Toru & Reiko) is mostly a misfire, but the remainder of the film is a heartbreaking work adapted from a book of staggering genius. Four stars, with the rating pending as I wish to see it again with better subtitles, assuming that the damn thing ever is officially released somewhere in the U.S. other than Seattle.

Beautiful, tragic, impeccable scenery, props, costumes and acting. I don't know what else to say, except this film is the adaptation of one of my favourite books of all time, and it wasn't a disappointment, I just happen to be a little destroyed right now! Oh boy!
