If one cannot seriously address the sexuality of a man who was so obviously obsessed and driven by sex, then why bother making a film of his life at all?

I just saw again this stylish movie and enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed it for the first time.Still fresh and innovative after 32 years.Mishima is a masterpiece, a pleasure for the senses.

Really a work of love. Beautiful sets, shots, colours... Spot-on acting, gestures.. A very painful visual understanding of Mishima's novels and life.

A Life in Four Chapters is an example of an artistic expression so compelling that it - perhaps particularly for more distant Western observers - transcends many of the complex, difficult, and politically-charged circumstances which surrounded it.

Paul Schrader's one-of-a-kind masterwork. A fascinating bio-pic with originality to spare. Many different cinematic approaches culminate in gorgeous episodic visual poetry, all put to outstanding Phillip Glass music. Nice to see George Lucas and Coppola producing art films such as these.
