Similar to Ran, but a masterpiece in its own right.

Kurosawa was a painter before he moved to films, and some of this color samurai films really prove this. This is a great film.

A very artistic work. Less western and more Japanese than some of Kurasawa's other films. An unrivaled portrait of the sengoku wars and the characters involved, like Takeda Shingen, Oda Nobunaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and the unnamed 'shadow warrior'.

Quite possibly the most epic film ever. Kagemusha takes the big budget power of Coppola and Lucas and backs godly director Akira Kurosawa in what I consider a front runner for the finest film ever made. The art design is fantastic and the music haunting. The actors are top notch and accurately portray their real life historic counterparts, particularly Nobunaga and Tokugawa.
