It's always a pleasure to see Collette, a performer who always cranks up the energy, and yet here, as so often, she gives the impression of a ferocious screen intelligence somehow not being used to the full.

Without giving too much away for those seeing it on the weekend, Mental is an Aussie bogan tour de force of Muriel proportions...brilliant in its concepts and acting but incredibly flawed in its sub-plotting, which almost ends up completely unravelling what should have been a landmark in Australian film making...a wasted opportunity to properly tackle a number of important issues for the sake of self-indulgent artistic licence...still bulk ace enjoyable but!

the first halif is mad yet so darkly funny but then the makers lost their way...should have been quite something
