Working-class British housewife Myra Savage reinvents herself as a medium, holding seances in the sitting room of her home with the hidden assistance of her under-employed, asthmatic husband, Billy. In an attempt to enhance her credibility as a psychic, Myra hatches an elaborate, ill-conceived plot to kidnap a wealthy couple's young daughter so that she can then help the police "find" the missing girl.

wow umn just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a good movie 2 watch.....its got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie....i think that richard attenborough, patrick magee, nanette newman, mark eden, gerald sim, judith donner, kim stanley play good roles/parts throughout this movie....i think that the director of this thriller/drama/classics movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie....i think that this is a good thriller movie 2 watch with a good cast throughout this movie i think that this is a really good tense thriller movie 2 watch with a good cast throughout this movie

My #92 film of all time. A hidden film noir that is so addictive and fun. Kim Stanley is wonderful.

Excellent suspenseful film, I knew nothing about it before I saw it, so I was completely surpised when the story unfolded. Kim Stanley and Richard Attenborough were both incredible in it. Attenborough's retrieving of the ransom money was very intense. I wish this film had gotten more recognition, it was a pretty dark film, considering it was made in 64.

If there is one thing I've learned from films like Gone Baby Gone and Ransom and Jack the Bear and Man On Fire, it is that when you're kidnapping a child, everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Seance on a Wet Afternoon offers no exception to that rule. Don't let the title fool you, this one is more suspense than horror, though it has a few elements of the latter. Kim Stanley is creepishly wonderful as the disturbed medium and Richard Attenborough's submissive husband character is spot-on. For a film that I caught quite by accident, with no preconceived notions or high expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a movie on par with better known genre gems like Diabolique and Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte.

If one says that the best things about Séance on a Wet Afternoon are the performances of Kim Stanley and Richard Attenborough and Bryan Forbes' script, this is not to decry Forbes' direction. In fact he does an excellent job.
