A brilliant and moving film that deserves a new lease of life in this era of blu-ray discs and HD digital remastering. Unfortunately, the current English-language DVD producers have a lot to answer for, as they have inexplicably failed to include subtitles on the disc - leaving viewers unable to understand some of the most important lines in the film. Some of the scenes make little sense without them and it therefore spoils the overall narrative, through no fault of the film itself! Interestingly, the film was popular in Poland and the Polish-language DVD does not have this problem (and includes an interesting 10-years-on interview with the producers), and the picture is also better quality - but unless you speak Polish this tip will be of little consolation.

A drama movie that describes a story of a hospital for orphans and how some people can change under special conditions. Polish and German cast, fantastic folkloric music by polish composer Michal Lorenc, worth watching..., if You can, buy the soundrack cause you will love it...

Between a 5/10 and 6/10, the primary problem here is with the lead actor and the script he has been given. The script is weak and while he speaks English,it is clear that his native language (German) would have been the better choice.

Not a masterpiece, but a pretty good movie with a really beautiful soundtrack.
