Keane (2004)

William Keane is barely able to cope. It has been six months since his six-year-old daughter was abducted from New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal while traveling with him. Repeatedly drawn to the site of the abduction, Keane wanders the bus station, compulsively replaying the events of that fateful day, as if hoping to change the outcome.

Sad story, sad ending, but superbly executed. It took me a while to get used to the close, tight camera work in this film. At first I was uncomfortable with it and felt like I needed to take a step away from the TV, but now I can see how much that actually pulled me into the movie - heightening my sense of paranoia.

The movie draws us into complicity with someone who may be on the verge of insanity, but only because he's living with the unbearable.

May be too much suspense for some, but it's vividly powerful.

A wholly unexpected and ultimately gratifying experience.

Disturbing from the beginning till the last second, you feel that you can't just stay and watch you have to go into it. You don't know if you have to save this girl or this man. Damian Lewis give us a tremendous performance, the ambiguity of his character, the way he is down but still falling touches you, not only because deep misery concerns us all but also because it shows our impossibility to trust people nowadays because we can't trust ourselves. No music even for the credits, no artificial steady cam, permanent close-ups, heavy ambiance, loud breathing, thanks again to Lodge Kerrigan to being able to do this pure cinema, again.
