Flawed but compelling exploration of a relationship lacks the depth of Noe's best but is a visual treat. The frank sex scenes garnered the film some controversy and perhaps detracted from the serious intention of taking an unflinching look at the intricacies of the physical and emotional connections made by people in a relationship. Predominantly filmed in a series of rooms and in close up suggestive of both the claustrophobic intensity of a new relationship and the feeling of breing trapped the film still manages to look gorgeous with its deep colours and inspired lighting. What does let it down at times is the script which veers into a flabby mid section that briefly lost my attention but overall i enjoyed this.

While far less engaging than other Gaspar Noé movies, Love explores the love life of its very unlikeable protagonist with all the stylish editing, beautiful cinematography and explicit sex you would expect from him. It's almost impossible to feel any sympathy for its main character, but his story was still mostly interesting to watch. The sex scenes tie together an okay drama elevated by Noé's unique style. Artistically and technically impressive, though aside from its unsimulated sex scenes and some trippy sequences, doesn't offer the type of out-of-body experience that most Noé fans would expect.

This movie is fantastic for daring viewers. Love Karl Glusmans character and the story! It sums up many couples today making spur of the moment choices.

It’s a daring move for director Gaspar Noe to start "Love" off with a climax- but he’s a daring director with a career for cinephiles to follow. Martin a self professed sentimental romantic film student in Paris navigates love and commitment through the eye of his penis. Sex in love. Sex out of love. Sexual consequences as the same carnal acts are repeated as the partners drift apart. A transcontinental mating game that tries your patience yet still reveals some truths in between the sheets.
