This was NOT released in 1947--maybe 1977??..we need a Region 1 DVD of it with subtitles, too, although there isn't that much dialog. It does start out slow, but the embedded story and some of the absurdist dialogue ("homosexual spleen in the attic!") makes it all worthwhile. It's your turn, suck on the candy!

So very long! But delightfully compelling for the moments I wasn't falling asleep. Since this movie seems designed to toy with or smash traditional narrative expectations, it's important to just sit back and let it happen. The girls are so different from regular adult women that it's mesmerizing to watch them be childish in a non-childish world. A fascinating but subtle excape from reality and realism.

The movie was made in 1973, not 47...I wanted to watch this movie for a long long time, and finally did it yesterday! Let's say that it was not really what I expected. Really weird story, but it has its charm. I think I would have to watch it another time to really enjoy it. The interview part of Rivette is very interesting.

Rivette's has always been my favorite of the French New Wave directors and this is why...Oddly this three hour film was a huge hit when it was originally screened. Quite bizarre, even for Rivette but so charming and fun.
