This movie is pretty good, funny and creepy. I saw it in a theater though without knowing it was almost 4 hours long- I practically froze to death! And then I was upset that the movie was so unnecessarily long because I had this totally warped perspective of what was worthwhile or important. If I had watched it in the comfort of my own home, I would probably have liked it more. Also, the girls in this movie really know how to dress, and I had some sort of fashion awakening upon seeing such wild and new dressing ideas.

"Celine and Julie Go Boating is a hypnotic, circular film, which starts slowly with the meeting of Julie (Dominique Labourier), a shy librarian, and CÃ©line (Juliet Berto), a nightclub cabaret artiste, in a library reading room; and ends in a madcap murder mystery involving bloody handprints, time travel, apparitions and magic sweets" I mean,really. Do you need to know anything else? This film is a free-wheeling,narrative destroying dream and I love it so much.

[font=Century Gothic]"Celine and Julie Go Boating" is a surreal movie directed by Jacques Rivette about two friends, Celine(Juliet Berto), a stage magician, and Julie(Dominique Labourier), a librarian, living in Paris. They hang out together all the time, sometimes at each other's workplace, and also impersonate each other on occasion. The movie has an infectious sense of playful fun until it gets bogged down in a prolonged episode at a haunted house. Overall, the movie is very entertaining for a while but it cannot sustain it for all of the three hour plus running time. And it is not quite on the level of the surreal movies Luis Bunuel was making in the 70's.[/font]
