Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969)

After returning to Los Angeles from a group therapy session, documentary filmmaker Bob Sanders and his wife, Carol, find themselves becoming vigilante couples counselors, offering unsolicited advice to their best friends, Ted and Alice Henderson. Not wanting to be rude, the Hendersons play along, but some latent sexual tension among the four soon comes bubbling to the surface, and long-buried desires don't stay buried for long.

It seemed a little dated. I know that it was probably a big deal when it came out, but today not so much. It was good anyway.

Fantastic flick. Right at the fore front of the sexual revolution of the 60s. As frank as the film is though it also questions the morals of monogamy and (i though tat least) it did a good job of remaining on the fence. Even though ive said it before but i must repeat that NAtalie Wood is FANTASTIC.

before the big chill, when you wanted to see relationship movies between husbands and wives deconstructing sexual conventions with funky cool camera moves, you saw Bob &Carol& Ted& Alice. Features some excellent Elliot Gould back hair.

Entertaining, if uneven, comedy from director Paul Mazursky is an interesting look at the loosening sexual mores of the 1960s. Great characters and strong performances (though Dyan Cannon gets pretty annoying) and a number of very funny and compelling moments, but it does drag in places as it struggles to keep up the energy through many lengthy dialogue-driven scenes. Maybe only a minor classic, but worth checking out.

This must have been scandalous at the time it came out with all that nudity and questionable morals but now.... just a bit odd. Hilarious moments, especially towards the end. not everything is what it seems. I especially enjoyed seeing young Elliot Gould (precisely the same way of wearing a bathrobe as in Oceans 11-13) and young Dyan Cannon (anyone remember judge Whipper Cone????)
