Well, one positive thing might have come from this cheapie 1950s sci-fi flick. It's the births that resulted from backseat couplings when it played the drive-in circuit.

After climbing up a mountain that must have been 80 million feet high, Cesar "The Joker" Romero, Hugh "Ward Cleaver" Beaumont and a supporting cast of Twilight Zone regulars defy geography, physics and principle science as they explore the jungles of a lost, mountain-top continent. A green world populated by big ferns, plastic palm trees and a few dinosaurs Ray Harryhausen threw away when he was 3. Sam Newfield's apparent obsession with mountain climbing does nothing for the plot and so much steam is lost before reaching the land of the lost that by the time the first brontosaurus appears it's just too ho-hum to ever find an exciting pace. The cast is it's one redeemable element and they do their best to sell this Wellsian imitation, however even these screen vets can't eclipse the sets and effects that seem to predate adventure films from twenty years earlier. Compared to the likes of Son of Kong or Mighty Joe Young, Lost Continent resides somewhere at the bottom of the B-movie scale.

When the longest highlight of a science fiction-lost world-dinosaur movie is a scene where people are rock climbing, you know your movie is in serious need of padding out crap material... And was that rock climbing boring. But apparently the producers were not aware of good editing technique or special effects either. A lizard in close-up does not look like a huge dinosaur! And even with 'stars' like Hugh Beaumont, Cesar Romero, and the exotic one-named Aquanetta, the movie can't be saved in the acting area either. It's mostly a boring thrillride. The threat of the missing atomic rocket just does not seem a threat for anyone watching. What a classic in bad movies!

Like rock climbing? You'd better, 'cos that's what the bulk of this movie will give you. Rock climbing, rock climbing and MORE rock climbing. Sure, there's this bit about a lost rocket and some dinosaurs at the end, but they're just bookends to the real meat of the film: climbing up cheep mountain sets. No, it's not interesting.
