One of my favorites! Phil Harris' Baloo is perfect! Good story, music, and characters.

I'm a fan of all of the live-action adaptations Disney has been releasing of their animated classics, but Jon Favreau has left us with something much, much more in The Jungle Book. It's quite literally a perfect film in every way—production, cinematography, acting, effects, writing…you name it. This may be the best Disney movie I've ever seen, and it's definitely one of the best films I've seen. You know the story, so I won't bore you there. This is an excellent adaptation by Justin Marks, making a serious film with talking, singing animals that doesn't come off as ridiculous. It just feels natural, like something you see in your everyday life. It's a story full of action, adventure, suspense, humor, and most importantly—heart. It's a story about man's place in the world, but also about how much our learned behavior can triumph our nature. It's a story about family, and how there are ties that bind much stronger than blood. Do yourself a favor & see this film. See it on a massive screen if you can. I look forward to seeing Jon Favreau on stage at The Academy Awards next year.

This was without question the finest talking animal film I've ever seen. (I'm 66) Disclaimer, I saw it in 3D which I highly recommend. Visuals were jaw-dropping. They did a presentation in real world realism that has heretofore only been possible in animation. A spectacular visual and a story filled with enough drama and moral themes for child and adult alike.

When the young "man-cub" Mowgli's (Bruce Reitherman) life is under threat from the coming of the evil tiger Shere Khan (George Sanders), Bagheera (Sebastian Cabot) the wise panther must convince Mowgli to leave the jungle to the safety of the man-village. However, after meeting his new friend Baloo (Phil Harris) the fun-loving bear and the crazy ape king, King Louie (Louis Prima), Mowgli will do anything to stay in the place he loves, but Khan and the hungry snake Kaa (Sterling Holloway) have other ideas...... Terrific characters, toe-tapping musical numbers from both Terry Gilkyson and the Sherman Brothers and animation that was better than most of the output of Walt Disney Animation Studios at the time due to Walt himself wanting to become more involved with the production after the critical failure of The Sword in the Stone, is what makes his last film made during his lifetime a fitting end. It may divert heavily from the Kipling text, but The Jungle Book still manages to be one of Uncle Walt's best films on it's own terms.

at first attempt, i got the newer live actor version, was not popular with my kids. dug out this timeliness classic, had both kids captivated. i am just glad baloo did not perish in the final battle scene, i am still torn up by bambi and lion king. plus if the baloo's friends had stuck around, they could have opened up a can of whoop ass on shir khan

Highly recommended for you
