I've been wanting to see this cult Aussie horror classic for a while now and finally after watching it, I agree with everyone that this is a terrific film. This is a well acted, beautifully filmed, creepy and very eerie film that more in the vain of "Picnic At Hanging Rock" than say Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds", although it is just as chilling. Briony Behets and John Hargreaves are both great in the two leads role as a bickering married couple, the direction is nicely done, the script is well written (it explores the downfall of a marriage and as well after all the things that we as humans have done to nature, what if nature to revenge on us) and there are some really chilling scenes. A very underrated and little seen gem that pretty much puts most modern horror films by showing how it is supposed to be done. Check it out!

One of the great Australian horror films--a taut piece of ecological and psychological horror that follows a couple as they go on a long weekend vaction to a remote Australian beach. As the weekend progresses, the couple's relationship reveals itself to be badly broken and disentegrating fast, and the film depicts the couple performing various crimes against nature. Eventually, nature begins to strike back and the horrific external events parallel the equally dark and twisted interior psychological scars of the couple that are revealed over the course of the film. An intelligent, methodical, and disturbing piece of horror cinema that should be much better known in the States. Of course, it has recently received a remake as Nature's Grave.

Long Weekend" is an uneven thriller from the Australian outback that does have its amusing points.

Colin Eggleston takes the premise of nature's revenge to its most mysterious and over-determined limits.

There’s a boldness in Eggleston and De Roche’s choice to let almost the entire last half-hour of Long Weekend play out without dialogue, and in the clever ways they illustrate Peter and Marcia’s dangerous callousness.
