Great movie. Subtle yet powerful. Heartbreaking scene of the soldiers in the end.

saw this on DVD this morning and was so drawn into this flick. a multilayered story of the war on terror , with intertwined story line of politics and bloodshed The backdrop being the Middle East . Well told and I highly recommend. Robert Redford directs

Even more knock-out performances from Streep and Redford. Can't as much for Cruise but the movie had an extremely interesting delivery and message though it leaves you guessing on a couple of things.

After reading some of the comments. I need to comment. The point of the movie to is to say Americans need to stand up for what they believe in and DO something. It doesn't matter which 'side' you are on, believe and take action. Stop being passive. This is YOUR country and YOUR responsibility. Too many of us, myself including, watch the world and say I that's not my job. I don't care. The way it ended was to say to us the audience, what are YOU going to do. There is no 'end' to the movie, we are the movie. That's what I got out of the movie. All sides, all people are involved, HOW are you involved in your country?

Eschewing cinematic trickery and shock value moments or plot twists, this film earns high marks for asking tough questions and leaving the audience to to come to its own conclusions. Though it may seem at first a typical "Republicans-are-bad-Iraq/Afghanistan-are bad-and politics sucks" left-wing piece of tripe, it quickly becomes clear that this is an intelligent attempt to showcase each critical portion of the American persona. The right-wingers in control, the media who report them, the academics who criticize them, and the youth, who have to decide whom to follow. The film is not for the thrill-seeker, the romantic, or the sappy. It is a film for the questioners, those who are prepared to look deep within themselves and ask what vision of America they will choose to embrace, and whether or not they have the will to impose it.
