while he destroyed his carreer growling out "time to die" in the d and d movie, jeremy irons has been involved in some great movies, namely Kafka. based loosely on Franz Kafka's works 'the castle' and 'the trial', as well as his own life, this film noir captures something truly disgusting. something that no one should ever have to face. the mundane. the absurdly mundane. we face it every day, even welcome it as an anchoring force in our lives. but kafka obviously despised it, and that distaste is preformed greatly by jeremy irons. watch it sometime, it's one of sodenbergh's better films, yet no one seems to even know it exists.

monochromatic cinematography i this film is very effective and visually good to look at.. suspense through out the film.. jeremy irons is credible as kafka.. kafka's unique life and work..scares and terrific performances. you should see this

Probably one of the worst movies I have ever paid to see in a theatre (on a date). This film was disjointed with an overall horrible script. The acting is horrible despite a stellar cast. The viewer is not vested whatsoever. What's worse is there is no relation to Kafka, other than the style is Kafka-esque. No wonder this was the first of a series of Soderbergh bombs.

The movie is MTV Kafka: Instead of dialogue, character, behavior, it has a look and a mood. And that's all it has.

This is Soderbergh's best movie, not an easy position to hold. Irons is brilliantly cast, along with many of the other supporting characters. The pace and style traces its line down the blade of a razor. Kafka is an excellent protagonist of his own story. His fiction was his life.
