Nothing new to add to the last few films to cover the band (Closer, 24 HPP) but is a lot better at conveying what was happening by talking to the people who were there and mattered. So much better than the totally OTT Closer, Sumner and Hooky make the best contributions. Can't stand Annike though! What did he see in her!?

This was a solid documentary that told the short story of a pivotal band. What I really like about this doc is that in so many ways it retains the style and aesthetic that Joy Division had even down to the layout of the DVD menus, to the filler imagery, and the editing of dialog. Somehow, Grant Gee was able to capture the unique mood that Joy Division embodied and used it to tell an informative story of an influential and groundbreaking band.

Excellent docu about Joy Division set against the rise of Manchester from the grimy ashes of the 70s. Nicely stylised and some good interviews with all the main figures in the story. Nothing massively new is revealed from other films like Control or other documentaries about the story, but it's still a great watch.

A good retrospective of Joy Division's rise and the band's almost unintentional meaningfulness. The band footage is excellent, I'm only upset that many are cut very short and they do not seem to exist on the DVD at all. I just saw the fictional account of Ian Curitis' (lead singer/rock icon) life "Control" and I wish now that I had seen them in the opposite order. In any case, it made me dig out their records and marvel at how they fresh they still sounded.
