A mysterious woman wanders the streets of Manhattan in a confused state. Leon imbues the film with an uncertain sense of dread, but he doesn’t lead the story or its protagonist anywhere worthwhile. It’s as though the narrative was designed specifically to capture the feeling of being lost in the city and what that might do to someone, but there’s very little exploration of Alina’s interiority for it to be satisfying.

Frustrating in its repetitiveness, Leon’s third feature is like a narrative exercise fascinated by both memory and youth. Italian Studies relentlessly experiments with form, but fails to fully congeal.

The movie did have a style and the movie did have some performances but i just didn't care at all, not only the person but the story and all of that, i just didn't care, at in the end Italian Studies is just a waste of time especially when the movie was less than 80 minutes, it's boring and it feels so long and that's because i did not invest or care about anything inside the movie.

It’s an odd sort of travelogue Leon and Kirby curate here, but Italian Studies’ drifting, artsy peculiarities make 70 minutes fly by with a palliative affection—for Alina, for New York and for all the intersecting stories contained within its bounds.
