One of the most emotionally impactful films I've ever watched. You only have so much time on this Earth, and you need to spend it doing something that you find meaningful. However you must also have the ability to be able to have a meaning behind what you are doing. Just because you find something meaningful does not mean there is any actual meaning behind what you are doing. Finding that meaning is the most gracious gift you can ever grant yourself.

Shakespeare's famous quote, "we are all players and the world's a stage" is artistically and compellingly brought to life.

A genuinely ambitious work, Synecdoche NY is Charlie Kaufman's brilliant, spiralling tale of life, art, and mortality. Philip Seymour Hoffman guides us through as a theatre director, struggling with fear of death, marital issues, infidelity, and other ever-deepening hangups of life. Hoffman's done this before, but never at such an engagingly enigmatic level. After being awarded the "Genius" prize, Hoffman embarks on an absurdly ambitious project of what appears to be the ultimate play. This leads to an endless supply of insights on the relationship between life and art - some truly inventive, as good as Woody Allen's musings on the subject. Ironically, as the film, turn after turn, defies explanation, it may end up telling you more about yourself than most films ever will.

A heartbreaking, breathtaking, and horribly depressing story that will leave you watching countless times after your first viewing.
