The most outstanding film of the decade. Indescribable. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Samantha Morton, Dianne Wiest... subtle, stunning. Jon Brion's score and the sound design underscore the depth and nuanced emotion of this film's world. See it.

WOW! Mr. Kaufman's debut as a director couldn't have been any better! Actually I got the film as it was trying to develop itself in a "Prust"ian manner and I love that. and Philip Seymour Hoffman showed what it takes to be an actor in the Hollywood without having bursting muscles!

This may be the most epic meditation on humanity and art to ever hit celluloid. Can you even call it a film? This perplexing opus continually beseeches itself to be something greater: after a second viewing I can officially say it succeeds, and upon a third viewing, there's no other word to more effectively describe this film than brilliant. "Ambitious" is a modest description; never before have I witnessed anything achieve such broadness yet such density. This is the life of the thinking human being in all of it's confusing, misunderstood glory (albeit self-indulgent, scatter-brained, funny, fearful and utterly depressing). Kaufman's directorial debut may forever be his masterpiece.
