Man Push Cart (2006)

Every night while the city sleeps, Ahmad, a former Pakistani rock star turned immigrant, drags his heavy cart along the streets of New York. Razvi, once a pushcart vendor himself, is particularly good; he brings a visceral poignancy to a character who comes to represent every desperate soul who ever tried to make it in the land of plenty.

Although many of the movies plot points could be seem coming from a long ways off, it still managed to have some meaning. Coming from the Midwest, it's hard to imagine people wanting to live in a big city so badly that they would put up with such conditions. This is also not an uplifting film, at the end it felt like I had been suckerpunched in the soul.

Really cool filmmaking. I like what I'm seeing. Sometimes its nice to see a movie with no resolution or realization of "dreams." Ahmad was fantastic on screen. He really made me feel the character. What I love about this is that it breaks nearly every genre convention. It's fresh, it's unpredictable, it's culturally significant and it tells me a story of someone normally taken for granted.

Ambitious, but somehow it falls a bit short. Worth seeing though.

There is something that just grabs you...about this film. Poigniant. A story worth hearing, and watching!
