Failed musician Jay abandoned his family and now earns a living as head bartender in a trendy London pub. Every Wednesday afternoon, a woman comes to his house for graphic, almost wordless, sex. One day, Jay follows her and learns about her. This eventually disrupts their relationship.

Its unflinching attitude toward sex is only weakened by the lack of enjoyment that the characters seem to have while actually having sex.

Wants to be a "Last Tango in Paris" for the new millennium, but its flaccid dramatization and hollow moralizing doesn't rise even to the level of last year's "An Affair of Love," let alone Bertolucci's masterpiece.

Intimacy benefits from cinematographer Eric Gautier's brilliant use of a handheld camera and imaginative wide-screen compositions. The threat of bathos is also kept at bay by the assured performances.
