Based on a true story, the movie has a hypnotic, documentary like appeal despite outlandish performances by Crispin Glover as the ringleader of the kids and Dennis Hopper as a wacked-out former hippie who offers them shelter. River's Edge is challenging to watch if only because it doesn't lecture. It simply presents these young people as wandering, stoned souls; shows a few of them grappling with moral responsibility, and allows the rest to fail. As we leave the theater, we can't help but wonder how common their behavior may be.

This is a cult classic, again Dennis Hopper steels the movie with his eerie performance and his glazed donut...lol

One of those movies I rented in the 80s because there was nothing left in the shop and ended up renting every now and again because I was astounded at just how intense it was.

I've only seen it 3 times, but it is definately a favorite for me! Crispin Glover kicks insane ass as Layne and Keanu Reeves didn't piss me off as much as I thought he would. I would however, love to punch that kid who played his little brother (who was also the little brother in Teen Witch) in the neck. It's just so...perfect!
