So, this is one of those situations where the movie is better than the book (actually, novella) - and, obviously Stephen King books/novellas are usually at least good if not great. The movie adds several new plot items that bring more interesting and thoughtful issues to the movie making it more compelling for viewers who like a little thinking involved with the watching.

Despite the handsome Craig Wrobleski cinematography, and despite a typically fine performance by Patrick Wilson as the lost kid’s dad — slowly going mad in the bush — “In the Tall Grass” runs too long and repeats itself too much to be as gripping as its source material.

In the Tall Grass is at least impressive on a technical level. Cinematographer Craig Wrobelski manages to find every conceivable way to make tall grass visually ominous, with Mark Korven's spooky score and the ambient sound design making valuable atmospheric contributions as well.

Grass is evil. Black rocks are evil. Church buildings are evil. Christian white men are evil. Stephen King's world view summed up. Hopeless film.
