This film is a masterpiece of horror. It's a shame there aren't more critic reviews to boost the score on this amazing movie, so just let the user scores paint the picture for you. There is not one thing wrong with this film. Practical effects are so good compared to CGI, and the effects in this masterpiece shine like the brightest star in the universe. The Thing and The Fly remind me that horror movies were once incredible.

John Carpenter's crowning achievement in my opinion. A desolate, moody, claustrophobic horror freak show with probably the most stunning and disturbing practical effects ever captured on film. It goes without saying that this is the best remake ever. Right next to Cronenberg's The Fly.

The Thing, a living substance that atomic radiations have unearthed after millennia of silence under the eternal ice of Antarctica, attacks a group of scientists whose base is located in Alaska. an indescribable film, it makes me shiver just to think about it. One of the best films in history directed by master John Carpenter.

"Cheating **** 38 years ago, this movie both bombed and received poor reviews from critics; same thing with Blade Runner, which was released at the same time. This just confirms that even in 1982, people were complete idiots. 'The Thing' is a classic body horror thriller where the mystery and suspense kept audiences on edge for years. It's one of the best John Carpenter movie behind 'Halloween'. This movie and Blade Runner stood the test of time as Sci-Fi masterpieces.
