This isn't a serious historical film. It plays different instruments than Spielberg's "Lincoln." Murray, who has a wider range than we sometimes realize, finds the human core of this FDR and presents it tenderly.

An insightful story of the hidden life of one of our most influential and successful Presidents and the climactic visit that changed history is told in Hyde Park on Hudson. A fascinating story of the complex, yet respected relationships and odds that are triumphed (human and political). The Famous Figures are humanized and made realteable to a degree that you can identify and fall for certain aspects of all the characters. The acting is great, the story is easy to follow, the shots are crisp and vivid bringing the Park to life. If you are a history buff you will enjoy this film.

Loved it - here's a prime eg of when sniffy reviewers can be wrong. Thought Bill Murray was outstanding - all the cast actually, the story engaging, laugh out loud funny in places. Could have been called "All The President's Women"!!

As for Daisy, her inflated role is problematic. Although at the periphery of the action, the woman stands at the centre of the film, doubling as the compromised love interest and our voice-over narrator. But even Linney can't bring her to life.
