Landmark Canadian film with emotional rollercoaster ride of two Maritimers moving to Toronto to improve their fortunes with predictably disastrous results. Great Bruce Cockburn music and the SCTV parody is a classic.

In a era of High Def, and visual stimulation to the max 'Goin' Down the Road' Takes you on a road trip like no other. The raw documentary style brings you face to face with the realisim of what life is really like in the "big city" Doug Mcgrath nails it with his edgy "who cares" attitude, while Jayne Eastwood captures everything in just one look.

The most depressing and unresolved ending I have ever seen in a film, it doesn't actually really end..there is no resolution, they just drive on down the road the day after they shoplifted at a Loblaw's. I guess thats the point, they end up on the road which is where they started in the begining. Very slow and simple plot.

Possibly the best Canadian film ever made, GOIN' DOWN THE ROAD is a gritty and realistic portrait of two men from Nova Scotia trying to make their way in the big city of Toronto. Beautifully acted with the atmosphere of a National Film Board of Canada documentary, it serves as an improvisational time capsule of my hometown in 1970. A one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Widely considered one of the best Canadian films ever made, it's the story of two Maritimers who try to make it in 1970s Toronto..largely improvised, funny & touching..might not resonate outside of Canada but it will be a familiar story for anyone who grew up on the East Coast.
