Xavier Dolan as an actor is just as much commendable as Dolan the director. "Elephant Song" exhibits that. It's also a steady and suspenseful mind game played on the characters in the film and the audience alike. Bruce Greenwood and Catherine Keener were excellent in their roles, adding just as much intrigue to the plot as does Dolan's character and circumstances.

I saw this at the Toronto Film Festival. It was a good movie, if somewhat contrived. It was hard to forget that this was originally a play. Terrific performances all around.

There's an attractive air of menace hanging over the proceedings, but otherwise the movie feels stagey and stilted.

5.8/10 The premise of the movie was interesting, but the end result wasn't. All the "twists" and turns weren't impressive and simply the movie lacked any excitement and intrigue. However the performances were good, mainly from Bruce Greenwood and Xavier Dolan. ~August 21, 2015~
