Rita, a witty 26-year-old hairdresser, wants to 'discover' herself, so she joins the Open University where she meets the disillusioned professor of literature, Dr. Frank Bryant. His marriage has failed, his new girlfriend is having an affair with his best friend and he can't get through the day without downing a bottle or two of whisky. What Frank needs is a challenge... and along comes Rita.

It's such a classic, it's really inspirational to people who do want to be like Rita. Julie Walters is fantastic in it too!

If anyone wants to be an actor, this film has excellent examples for both male and female...the drunk scene is the way it should be done. The story is excellent, and you're not ripped off with expectations

This film has some real insight into modern society, especially when Rita says "There's like this sort of disease, but no one mentions it; everyone behaves as though it's normal, y'know inevitable that there's vandalism and violence ...." and that people are advised to go out and get more money, so the disease is always covered up. She can see the problems, and wants answers.
