This comical love story follows the story of A.J. Fikry, whose life is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history and now his prized possession, a rare edition of Poe poems, has been stolen. He's given up on people and even the books in his store offer another reminder that the world is changing too rapidly. But when a mysterious package arrives at the store, it gives Fikry the chance to make his life over and see things anew.

In The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, deeper meaning is left by the wayside, in a tale with way too much story and not nearly enough life.

For the more casual viewer who is craving a traditional tear-jerker, this drama more than fits the bill.

I get it, it is a character Study of A.J., who is just too thin a character to study. He has that kind of dry, deadpan humor. He is played by Kunal Nayyar, who acts all bland and passive, like he doesn’t know he is the main character. A more charismatic and spotlight-stealing actor would do the character justice.

It mopes along when it isn’t leaving out what seem to be whole passages, transitions, backstory and the like. The action doesn’t flow at all, and relationships have a brittle, abrupt quality.
