but I actually liked this film. Oh, it's obvious that Selznick is trying to duplicate his [i]Wind[/i] success, and the dialogue is banal, but there was something there that kept my attention. And I liked the climax.

It was like a trashy dime-store novel brought to life by the golden touch of Vidor and Selznick. Loved it! I especially enjoyed seeing Gregory Peck in the bad guy role for a change.

It doesn't help that Jennifer Jones' accent and the skin tone of her native make-up fluctuate from scene to scene - she is strictly a force of camp that smacks every awful stereotype with a vengeance.
