When Albert Stockwell comes home from work one day he finds a note from his wife of 15 years, Nancy, saying she has gone to see friends. I have read most of the reviews posted so far and can't help but feel that they inaccurately portray this film. The notion that a film about cutting is pointlessly dark is seriously flawed. First, cutting does exist and unfortunately the circumstance that lead to the behavior are even more troubling. Putting a pretty yellow frame around a dark picture to make it more palatable to the masses is insulting to those that struggle with such severe issues. Secondly, while the film is dark and disturbing (which it is meant to be), it has numerous opportunities to go over the line and become overly filled with blood and sexual content, but resists the temptation to be more graphic. If you want to see a light-hearted expose on cutting, this is not your movie. If, however, you are looking for a disturbing yet fair treatment of a very difficult topic then I think the movie is worth the time.

This was a very twisted, difficult movie to watch. I just found it so painful watching especially Maria's character Nancy deal with all of her pain. It was definitely very raw and emotional. The story was very well written and the performances from everyone were amazing.

i love sad movies about depressed people, with creaking music, and rainy pictures ( mr doyle's work is genious as always), i like them even if they are exaggerated (like cronenberg's "spider" or coixet's "my life without me"), but this movie has one huge fault that's excludes it from assemblage of "good movies" , its imperfections are dialogs -they are just silly ("are you here","who, where" "real you" "me " "i'm here""real you?" etc ). Although i've honestly loved scene in boutique where jason patric and maria bello are buying dress for her ( for the night he will kill her) which made me think about "pretty women" and other romcom, and i realised that every crappy life has its fairytale moment. ps Mario Bello is disgusting in this film which i think means she's brilliant actress.

This is truly one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen...and at the same time so completely beautiful. Maria Bello, as usual, does no wrong and proves she can take on just about any role.
