So incredibly beautiful and contemplative. Dirk Bogarde gives a perfect, heart-breaking performance. Luchino Visconti delivers a masterpiece.

These are just a few of my favorite films:) . My Top Five, so to speak. Though I just can't make lists: there are so many great films out there I haven't had the chance to see, like Mizoguchi's, or most of Kurosawa's...When I do, they'll probably appear on this list. These five have inspired me a lot: I'm a writer, and these five movies here have been a great influence on my writings, though please don't accuse me of writing fan-ficitons or of ripping off plots. In fact, you probably wouldn't guess how they affect my so-called novels and short stories (if I ever get to finish a novel I'll be so happy...Thank God I have waaay too many ideas and I never really finish one), but I owe a lot to these works of art. Oh well. I feel really poetic today.

The film is at the top of my list for morbid entertainment. The best part is, he never scores, and dies.

Visually stunning and accompanied throughout by the notes of Mahler's third and fifth symphonies, Death in Venice may be glacially paced but never bores, constantly providing new pleasures for eyes and ears.

i think this is the only visconti film ive seen that i can consider a masterpiece and that i really loved. bograde was spectacular and his slow decent into sikness and death is magnificent to watch.
