God, I love the cinematography in this film. I also love the opening sequence, Richard Dreyfuss, and everything else including Truffaut's French. The final sequence has haunted me since I was a child and ever since it holds a subliminal power over my subconscious. It's one of those movies that when you watch you realise why Spielberg's work has been so much celebrated throughout the world.

You think "Inception" was mindblowing? Try rewinding back to 1977 when Steven Spielberg released his science-fiction masterpiece "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". It just so happens to be released the same year as George Lucas' "Star Wars" (Episode IV- A New Hope, to be exact) and while Lucas' childish but fun film went on to be unfathomably popular, it's Spielberg's picture that is the more mature, emotionally complex, challenging, awe inspiring and ultimately extremely rewarding. Featuring some great performances and insanely good special effects (that still hold up in 2010) and one of the most memorable scores this side of "Jaws", "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is a bon-a-fied sci-fi classic and one of the most enduring films from the 70s.

Graphically stunning and phsycologically thrilling. One of Spielberg's best.

The director's cut, which excludes the god-awful mother ship interior, is one of the greatest movie experiences ever.

Just watched this movie again and it's so amazing, particularly looking at the impact of it, how good it still looks! You can see how this movie led to ET later on, and Richard Dreyfuss is just awesome in this!! That tune has always stayed with me and I will still go to Devil's Tower one day!!
