Elliot, a successful gynecologist, works at the same practice as his identical twin, Beverly. Elliot is attracted to many of his patients and has affairs with them. Surgical instruments for operating on mutant women!

Tad T 25 Jun 2007

Disturbing and hallucinatory descent into perversion, drug abuse and madness, marked by Irons' startling double role. As the Mantle twins fragment under pressure from the contradictions inherent in their vicarious, incestuous relationship, Cronenberg's vision becomes progressively bleaker and more unsettling, reminiscent of his darkest and most affecting early works such as The Brood and Videodrome. Simply overwhelming.

This is one of the best Croneneberg's film and one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen by an actor. Jeremy Irons is fantastic as the two twins, and what a convenient name, the Mantle Brothers. Cronenberg is one of my favourite directors because of films like this and Spider. A visceral psychology that shakes even the sanests' foundations.

Mutant women? That sounds like a great idea for a show!

Gynaecology comes to cinema. Jeremy Irons shines as the genius twins who are torn apart over love and drugs. Witnessing the downward spiral is harrowing but astounding. As we get ever closer to the inevitable outcome Cronenberg gets under the skin in a way that only he can do.
