Dead Ringers (1988)

Elliot, a successful gynecologist, works at the same practice as his identical twin, Beverly. Elliot is attracted to many of his patients and has affairs with them. When he inevitably loses interest, he will give the woman over to Beverly, the meeker of the two, without the woman knowing the difference. Beverly falls hard for one of the patients, Claire, but when she inadvertently deceives him, he slips into a state of madness.

A phenomenol dual performance by the fantastically talented Jeremy Irons fits within a ingeniously depraved, multi-faceted script, directed at the height of David Cronenberg's awesomeness. One of my very favorites.

Cronenberg takes two brilliant performances from Jeremy Irons and crafts a mesmerizingly dark drama about the personal, emotional, and â??psychicâ?? connections between identical twin gynecologists. This film is a lot more than a story of brotherly love, but at the same time thatâ??s its core. Along the way, though, the film gets into all kinds of dichotomies nature vs. nurture, psychology vs. biology, sterility vs. filth. Throw in a bit of kinky behaviour and customized stainless-steel gynecological tools and you have one of Cronenbergâ??s best.

An utterly incomprehensible and disturbing look at the downfall of two brothers slide down into mental incasbility, degeneration and their incessant need for satisfaction, be it work or pleasure. It is one film that drew me more than Cronenberg's other work but for this film, I've yet to entirely put my finger on the underlying theme even though every bit of it just sort of threw me off hither.

One of Cronenburg's best, possibly the finest film he has made. The acting was obviously brilliant, Jeremy Irons is amazing.

This was such a crazy movie. Jeremy Irons does a perfect job of splitting the twins to the point where you can tell which is which. This is more of a dramatic horror, if you will, than anything else, and I believe it succeeds as that.
