The results are always visually arresting, while the narrative, even by Maddin standards, is completely out in the ozone.

Maddin is simply one the most inventive directors anywhere. He's David Lynch with a more pronounced sense of humor. Five years before Zohan, Maddin gives us a hockey-player turned hairstylist turned murderer. Throw in vengeance, lust, family, abortions, homoeroticism, ghosts, and a wax museum. It's a surreal Greek tragedy in Maddin's black-and-white, silent dream world, from a bygone era that never existed.

Weirdest. Although I like the Saddest Music in the World better, this strange film is a pretty good waste of an hour.
