Gritty drama about illegal aliens remains as topical as it is stylish--Socially and artistically important--and stunning filming!!

a classic film noir with themes still relevant today....Ricardo Montalban (perhaps better known as "Khan" to "Star Trek" fans) is terrific in this film....pretty violent, must have been extremely violent by 1949 standards....great story keeping the viewer interested from beginning to end....highly recommended.

good movie about wetbacks, and the police from mexico and the us trying to help them against greedy land owers.

Some dark turns along the way, fantastic photography and lighting techniques and some incredibly suspenseful moments make this film noir classic stand out from the crowd. I didn't follow the plot too well but that's probably my fault. A rare gem of movie that I'm surprised few people have heard of.

Noir shadows stalk the Imperial Valley. I love the blend of social realism and crime narrative. The cinematography here is masterful, and there are a few plot points that left me genuinely shocked/surprised. One of my favorite films of the studio era.
