This is quite a tense and claustrophobic watch. Its the sort of film which makes you wonder what people motivations may be, or have been and it keeps you guessing. Its understandably rather grim and gritty and is a worthwhile watch overall.

The whole thing feels a bit like an Arabic riff on "Chinatown" or "L.A. Confidential" — a neonoir with a tawdry edge where our imperfect hero will eventually be doomed. It’s not a question of if, only when he will lose.

This film noir, set in Cairo as the Arab Spring erupts, is a fabulous example of how have different layers of storytelling that will appeal to a variety of audiences. There is a murder mystery, a political statement and social allegory all in one.

Harvey S. Karten 03 Aug 2017

One character notes that his country is not Switzerland. This noirish detective story with allegorical touches is like a morality play about systemic corruption.

Shane Slater 09 Aug 2017

While the script has little more to say than "corruption is bad," Saleh smartly infuses the film with the righteous fury of its political context.
