What is most egregious, and seems completely lost on the filmmakers, is that the film is the very thing it attempts to expose: a pandering cash-in on faith-based films disguising itself as an honest examination of belief. And that, true believers, is unforgivable.

Neither an inspirational faith-based film nor an attack on Christian dogma, Will Bakke’s comedy/drama Believe Me plays like a religious variation of "Risky Business" minus the sex.

It's a funny movie but I'm not sure who would want to watch. It is a harsh rebuke of showy modern Christians and the mega-church mission mentality. The folk they insult are exactly the audience movie makers need to come see it. They’re responsible for almost all box office success in the realm of faith-based cinema. Non-Christians, who would find much to like in this “false profit-for-profit” tale, will likely avoid the film as just another “message movie.” I really had a good time watching.

If it’s not convincing as either a find-one’s-faith parable or clever spoof of pop Christianity, at least it’s relevant.
