Basically, this movie is pretty much awesome. I really enjoyed the story, as well as the filming and acting involved. It still is one of my favorites, despite being older than I am.

A good movie, but I was expecting more from it. The supporting characters seemed more developed than the leads. I think Houseman's character was suppose to be enigmatic (why does he keep asking Bottoms's character what his name is? Is he messing with him or did he actually forget the student who yelled "You're a son of a bitch!" at him during class?) but I thought he just seemed like the film makers decided they didn't need to actually make him awe inspiring as long as the other characters kept talking about him when he wasn't around. That said, I did enjoy it and it's nice to see a college movie that isn't just drunken shenanigans.

Definitely one of the most underrated films I have ever seen. I only know Lindsay Wagner from those mattress commercials and it was good to see her in an actual acting role. The script was amazing and the direction was very good by James Bridges. I loved how the study group got smaller and smaller by the end of the semester, which of course represented the dropout rate in elite law schools like Harvard. John Houseman gave one the finest performances I have ever seen and he deserved more than Best Supporting Actor since he was a focal point of the story. Excellent ending and definitely should be seen by all law school students.

If only more movies were like this one. A decent plot: a first-year Harvard law student discovers the absurdity of the system he used to adore. But the film transcends its plot or characters through its production value. The tight script serves to develop the characters beyond traditional exposition and into archetypal, almost mythological figures. The cinematography is simply perfect. The whole film has a literary feeling about it. This is what cinema should be.
