Despite the limited scope of its predictable narrative, "Barbara" remains a compelling character study thanks to Nina Hoss's enigmatic performance in the title role.

A very touching and romantic love story in the context of cold war time Eastern-Western separated Germany. I was a bit surprised with the scenario. Dunno if I'd have made the same choice as Barbara, should I find myself in the same situation....
