What amazes me is that this film was apparently not a hit when it was first releases. Maybe it's the nostalgia or the sentiment of the story, but this film delivers on all accounts, on every viewing.

...i finally got to see the much lauded Frank Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life" (1946) last night. i wish i had seen it much sooner because now i see why this film is being touted as one of the best masterpieces ever made in the history of cinema. albeit the seemingly simplistic premise, the film resonates with so much meaning that really carries itself through the ages. i also loved how capra sequenced the events, building up to a really beautiful climax. it truly is the embodiment of a 'classic,' and maybe it's nostalgia kicking in, but this film made me miss my grandfather so much. i wish we had seen this together. :)

There's sex and death here, elation and depression, hope and despair.

Classic. Sheer, unadulterated corniness; sweet as sugar....but fun and engaging. An enduring story.

It was such a treat finally seeing this wonderful film at the cinema, and right before Christmas. Always has me in floods! The fact that our 23-year old son thought it was the best Christmas film he'd ever seen is testament to its timeless class!
