A well drawn portrait of the indian women oppression and their lake of freedom regarding their thoughts, needs, hobbies, eat. The movie's progression is too predictable sometimes; the ending scene is too cliché... but it depaints a reality I did not, do not and will not know as a french women living in France, isn't it?

Despite some lack of focus (there is a lot going on) and occasional oversold dramatics (the exception is Brick Lane's Tannishtha Chatterjee as activist Nargis), these Goddesses are crowd pleasers ...

Everything that occurs is a real-world problem, but so many happen to this one group, it ends up feeling like those old-school novels in which uppity heroines were punished for forward-thinking transgressions. Here the audience pays, as well.

A film that lives up to its title and delivers something rarely seen in Indian cinema.

Pavleen Gujral is a revelation and Sarah-Jane Dias shows admirable poise.
